Gardening dreams

I suppose spring is on it's way but it still seem to be quite a while before it will acctually hit us. The snow is still present in many places and I've only seen a few plants starting to grow.

As our house is not even ten years old, and built where there used to be a forest, our garden is very new. The former owners did not have that much time for gardening, and so the last three summers I have been trying to create a garden that consists of more than just grass.

The problem is that it takes so long for plants to grow. I am an impatient person, and I have a hard time accepting that I will have to wait for 2-3 years before the plants actually become big enough for my liking.

Gardening is a little bit like interior design, I think, only that it takes so much longer to see the result.

I also find it hard to go about planting stuff in the grass, because in a way I really like open spaces. This goes for outside as well as inside - I am having the same problem inside and only recently got better at leaving things out to create a more "homely" feel instead of a minimalist and totally decluttered but impersonal style. I know that it will look better and feel more like a garden if I could only plant more bushes and kind of create "rooms" in the garden, but I have a hard time doing it. This year I hope I will get the courage to be more radical and plant both trees and bushes out there.

The below picture shows newly planted lavender. I dream of a patch all blue with lavender.

This picture shows one of the hardest spots in the garden. The wall on the right in the photo is facing north and hardly get any sun. It is not a place where we spend a lot of time, but I would still like it to be more inviting. I have considered doing something with stones, or maybe a wooden construction of some kind, but I am not sure what to do.

All the pictures are from last summer, of course. We are still far from that weather now.

I will link this to the abeachcottage Wednesdays, because she was also writing about gardening.
