<br />
I never thought I would give up blogging at this time, but I really have to. There is not time to take and post pictures of all the preparations the way I want to, and I will just have to take a little break. I promise a full report afterwards, and hopefully some occasional posts along the way.<br />
<br />
I am really sorry for this, but there is simply not enough time.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-37739510232575937872011-06-08T09:42:00.000+02:002011-06-08T09:42:21.202+02:00A bannister for the second entrance<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is another post that is a bit overdue. I find it difficult to keep up with blogging at the moment, because most of my times goes to wedding preparations. We are getting married in July and will host the whole event with 100 guests at home, so there is a lot that needs to be done.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">But let me show you our new bannister. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We have two entries to our house, which is another of those weird things about the house plan that I do not get, and they are placed right next to each other. This one enters into the mud room, and while I totally get the point of that, the mud room is just very small and it is not working very well because if one enters this way with dirty clothes, there is a fair chance that it will rub off to some of the clean clothes. So, not very practical.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7LOb90ou5xU/Tdk_c1RS56I/AAAAAAAAE3M/RtytT_o3o_4/s1600/IMAG0018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7LOb90ou5xU/Tdk_c1RS56I/AAAAAAAAE3M/RtytT_o3o_4/s320/IMAG0018.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I suspect that this entrance was added later, because the stairs are not quite finished, and a while back I decided to finally put up a bannister around it. I had been thinking about it for a long time, and finally I just decided to get going and see how it would end rather than procastinate it any longer.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0xMSbNRSz8M/Tdk_iTj4inI/AAAAAAAAE3Y/pHpjljvA-Lc/s1600/IMAG0021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0xMSbNRSz8M/Tdk_iTj4inI/AAAAAAAAE3Y/pHpjljvA-Lc/s320/IMAG0021.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I used really long screws to fasten the poles from below. I am certain this is not the recommended way of doing it, but it worked.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eycUHwmfRWY/Tdk_iS8Av2I/AAAAAAAAE3c/1aVFG7vQBdI/s1600/IMAG0022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eycUHwmfRWY/Tdk_iS8Av2I/AAAAAAAAE3c/1aVFG7vQBdI/s320/IMAG0022.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nAY5x_VbG3g/Tdk_puFjDkI/AAAAAAAAE3o/Lemq6cX3Mds/s1600/IMAG0024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nAY5x_VbG3g/Tdk_puFjDkI/AAAAAAAAE3o/Lemq6cX3Mds/s320/IMAG0024.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I gut the overlays sideways to create nice angels and was very proud when they actually fit! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IOl1OPHXY-c/Tdk_xykuC8I/AAAAAAAAE3w/Yy2PgfrjvGM/s1600/IMAG0028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IOl1OPHXY-c/Tdk_xykuC8I/AAAAAAAAE3w/Yy2PgfrjvGM/s320/IMAG0028.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-joQOnUCdBhE/Tdk_5367ZmI/AAAAAAAAE34/VC3HhvuxXnA/s1600/IMAG0029.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-joQOnUCdBhE/Tdk_5367ZmI/AAAAAAAAE34/VC3HhvuxXnA/s320/IMAG0029.jpg" width="191" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is what it looked like once in place. It is a bit skew, but we fixed it with some more screws.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zZpsDoF6QK4/Tdk-_QoID0I/AAAAAAAAEzk/i43wyRq_i3A/s1600/DSC_6712.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zZpsDoF6QK4/Tdk-_QoID0I/AAAAAAAAEzk/i43wyRq_i3A/s320/DSC_6712.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Painted white. Of course.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bGSMykvJtos/Tdk-_vJpuSI/AAAAAAAAEzo/JLgoo6lWPAg/s1600/DSC_6714.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bGSMykvJtos/Tdk-_vJpuSI/AAAAAAAAEzo/JLgoo6lWPAg/s320/DSC_6714.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I think it blended pretty well with the other entrance. I still find the whole concept a bit weird, because what we really would need is a big roof and all that outside the "mud room entrance" so that we can take off the dirty clothes and shoes outside, but it really doesn't make sense to build another one like that so close to the first one. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kkQIKJTfK2c/Tdk-_-vIB9I/AAAAAAAAEzs/ZVJcUKCM58Q/s1600/DSC_6716.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kkQIKJTfK2c/Tdk-_-vIB9I/AAAAAAAAEzs/ZVJcUKCM58Q/s320/DSC_6716.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">A bit skew, but.... it's not so noticeable in real life.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GT0EF1Jvn_Y/Tdk_Ad2LfXI/AAAAAAAAEz0/X2grT2ueEMA/s1600/DSC_6722.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GT0EF1Jvn_Y/Tdk_Ad2LfXI/AAAAAAAAEz0/X2grT2ueEMA/s320/DSC_6722.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z-Ooln0OxgM/Tdk_ABUGSLI/AAAAAAAAEzw/cEMVG8rCFeU/s1600/DSC_6719.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z-Ooln0OxgM/Tdk_ABUGSLI/AAAAAAAAEzw/cEMVG8rCFeU/s320/DSC_6719.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This is one of those projects that I am so satisfied of having finished. I debated for so long how to tackle it and in the end I am just glad I did something, even if it is not perfect. I might replace or re-do it some day, but it definitely works for now.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-26800601475631030942011-05-31T17:04:00.001+02:002011-06-01T10:18:31.763+02:00A coastal inspired mirror<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This isn't a new project, because we made it back when we redid our hall, but I think it merits an own post.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A couple of years ago we rented an apartment that we never moved into (because we found the house before we had moved). The former tenant left no less that three mirrored walls after asking us if we wanted them. When we never moved in, it looked bad for a while because the next tenant did not want them and it looked like we would have to take them all down and possibly pay for the damage. Luckily, in the end the new tenant was promised new wallpapers and so the landlord took down all the mirrors for us.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">They are standard mirrors and put together they quickly give real flashbacks of the 80's.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I still needed mirrors for the hallway though, and that's when I came up with this idea.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vxWaB_L8kgI/Tdk-po3a9-I/AAAAAAAAEwc/RLece4s7GU0/s1600/DSC_6579.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vxWaB_L8kgI/Tdk-po3a9-I/AAAAAAAAEwc/RLece4s7GU0/s320/DSC_6579.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I went to the lumber yard, got some meters of rough planks. I cut them into pieces that were a bit longer than the mirror.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--SSt39UTIAM/Tdk-q4db-RI/AAAAAAAAEwo/-4Mvu1Y_rCY/s1600/DSC_6583.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--SSt39UTIAM/Tdk-q4db-RI/AAAAAAAAEwo/-4Mvu1Y_rCY/s320/DSC_6583.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Then I put them on top each other like this (I was originally going to do it differently, but I made a mistake when measuring and so this was the only option)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-90TFWpKZR3g/Tdk-qOsG79I/AAAAAAAAEwk/BHDnT4YFhLM/s1600/DSC_6580.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-90TFWpKZR3g/Tdk-qOsG79I/AAAAAAAAEwk/BHDnT4YFhLM/s320/DSC_6580.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I screwed them together, painted them with a matte white paint, and attached the mirrors using nails. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GSpFM3jesjg/Tdk-qdP9yLI/AAAAAAAAEws/T9rtGZFtZA0/s1600/DSC_6582.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GSpFM3jesjg/Tdk-qdP9yLI/AAAAAAAAEws/T9rtGZFtZA0/s320/DSC_6582.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> Then I just hung them up, and I have to say they are a lot better than if they had been put up with those black plastic things that usually comes with them. They give kind of a coastal look, I think. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">It would be possible to distress them a lot more, but I still have tons of these mirrors left so I suppose I will try it next time.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">(Linking up to <a href="http://theletteredcottage.net/diy-art-how-to">here </a>, <a href="http://www.abeachcottage.com/">here</a>, <a href="http://savvysouthernstyle.blogspot.com/">here </a>and <a href="http://diybydesign.blogspot.com/2011/05/swing-into-spring-its-party-18.html">here</a>.)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">PS. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a good picture of a mirror? Sorry for the bad quality on these ones, I tried all kinds of lights and it simply did not work.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-41031484870383880372011-05-26T20:11:00.000+02:002011-05-26T20:11:19.048+02:00I´ve got a drawer<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">First off, I really do not know if "drawer" is the right word for this. School and business English never thaught me the difference between a drawer, a box and a canister.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Either way... when we went shopping for the pieces to the fence-to-be-completed-some-day-when-we-have-no-more-excuses I found this one in one of the containers. (Don't worry, it was a container filled with wood stumps and left over wood, so nothing gross.) I scooped it up and asked if I could have it, which I could.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MSqq2JBZ5w0/Tdk-9-b-0AI/AAAAAAAAEzY/1xS_uC9JaAs/s1600/DSC_6708.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MSqq2JBZ5w0/Tdk-9-b-0AI/AAAAAAAAEzY/1xS_uC9JaAs/s320/DSC_6708.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">It has a little damage, and I suppose that's why they had thrown it away, but it doesn't really matter (and could be fixed quite easily). I think it's pretty and I plan to paint it and then put pots of herbes in it. The problem is that I just cant decide on the color.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I am thinking white, with some grey, French inspired, lettering... or aqua with a distressed white on top... or lavender with white lettering... or a pop color? I simply can't decide.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DzGLAxT67_E/Tdk--Wi5cII/AAAAAAAAEzc/ektpSzTlHY8/s1600/DSC_6709.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DzGLAxT67_E/Tdk--Wi5cII/AAAAAAAAEzc/ektpSzTlHY8/s320/DSC_6709.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Any ideas?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-72915625686586291132011-05-25T16:24:00.000+02:002011-05-25T16:24:31.457+02:00Our beach portal<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This post is a bit overdue, as you can see on the lack of green grass on the pictures, but it shouldn't matter.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">From our house, there is a small footpath down to the lake. It's not very far at all, but I got the idea of building a portal there. I picture it covered in roses and I hope to paint the name of the house on it some day.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It wasn't a very difficult building project.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">You will see that "the legs" are a bit thicker than the overlay, but I basically used what we already had and I paid more attention to the look of it than how much it can support, because it is not supposed to support anything heavy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We laid it out on the ground and sawed the overlaying ones diagonally.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DxZ2YXZ8Rxo/TdlAGKJibDI/AAAAAAAAE5g/xrQ816PHCy4/s1600/IMAG0093.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DxZ2YXZ8Rxo/TdlAGKJibDI/AAAAAAAAE5g/xrQ816PHCy4/s320/IMAG0093.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">I think we are both kind of dislike to measure things, because there have been quite a few occasions where we've had to re-do everything because we didn't measure or think correctly. (That would definitely be even more true for projects that I'm doing on my own. I am not much for measuring, whether it's a wooden piece or a cup of flour).</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I have no idea what these are called in English (ground anchor maybe?), but it has a long metal spike that we drove into the earth. On that balcony was this chair and our oldest cat Dexter loved to run down to that balcony and jump up on to the chair. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AQ5xerzZ6JE/Tdk-2D12NrI/AAAAAAAAE68/6-J_ZhgRzAQ/s1600/DSC_6661.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AQ5xerzZ6JE/Tdk-2D12NrI/AAAAAAAAE68/6-J_ZhgRzAQ/s320/DSC_6661.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We were the only ones using the balcony and when we moved, we took the chair with us because we thought our cat would like to have it at the new place.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Needless to say, Dexter never even looked at it again and after a month on our terrasse I put it in a corner of the garden.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gDCJlrkJDws/Tdk-3HI-riI/AAAAAAAAEyY/PMvyWU4hNzQ/s1600/DSC_6664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gDCJlrkJDws/Tdk-3HI-riI/AAAAAAAAEyY/PMvyWU4hNzQ/s320/DSC_6664.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I think it is beautiful in it's gray, wheathered shade. And I love looking across the lawn and see that peaceful place where I could sit down and just smell the flowers (even if I never do sit down). </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">I have planted some lavender and I was hoping for some poppies, but so far only the tulips spread their beauty. My dream would be for a whole plot of blueish lavender next to one with red poppies. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Isnt it amazing how old things sometimes is so much more beautiful than new ones? What are you favorite old thing (that you haven't painted)? </div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-74048972009847842542011-05-22T19:09:00.000+02:002011-05-22T19:09:53.669+02:00Trying my luck at baking<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">There has been some personal issues, along with contant computer-related issues lately so I have neglected the blog. I am sorry for that, but sometimes one has to ignore it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">There are tons of things I want to tell you. We have added a bannister to our second entrance, the "cave" has been cleared out, I have planted more plants, changed the curtain in the kitchen and made other changes.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And I have been baking.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qx83Jd7fg2E/Tdk-x_UacII/AAAAAAAAExw/28nHIfDtxuw/s1600/DSC_6643.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qx83Jd7fg2E/Tdk-x_UacII/AAAAAAAAExw/28nHIfDtxuw/s320/DSC_6643.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I am still experimenting, and this bread did not turn out so good. It looks lovely, but I think it should have been in the oven for longer time.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BgL7le5lurc/Tdk-zniy0bI/AAAAAAAAEx8/wxbWRDcETxw/s1600/DSC_6652.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BgL7le5lurc/Tdk-zniy0bI/AAAAAAAAEx8/wxbWRDcETxw/s320/DSC_6652.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It was still good though. I just need to follow a recipe instead of just throwing together whatever I feel like.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FDxkB1Yj85w/Tdk-0D9kqfI/AAAAAAAAEyE/dxymf4lB7xE/s1600/DSC_6654.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FDxkB1Yj85w/Tdk-0D9kqfI/AAAAAAAAEyE/dxymf4lB7xE/s320/DSC_6654.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I also made myself a pizza. Very nice, but I should have skipped the tomatoes inside it.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Hrs2yCX_wEE/Tdk-zfE3eYI/AAAAAAAAEyA/70ZY0BiIBeU/s1600/DSC_6649.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Hrs2yCX_wEE/Tdk-zfE3eYI/AAAAAAAAEyA/70ZY0BiIBeU/s320/DSC_6649.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So, that's it for now. I promise to be back soon.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-4122388638391375022011-05-18T09:00:00.000+02:002011-05-18T09:00:33.976+02:00LostI lost quite a few draft posts when Blogger went down and bad luck still seems to be around, because there were several issues with my computer yesterday, preventing me from uploading any photos. I have a great spray paint project that I really want to show you, but it will have to wait until tonight when I am home at my own PC (I am writing this from work).<br />
<br />
So sorry for all the issues lately, I hope things will be better from now on.<br />
<br />
And yes, I did almost finish the clean up of the "cave". I spent most part of monday there and after 8 hours of sorting, reorganizing and throwing away stuff it is possible to move around in there. There are still some things that needs to be thrown away that were too heavy for me to move, but it is definitely looking better. Will post pictures on friday, I hope.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-13637557704806219022011-05-15T22:20:00.000+02:002011-05-15T22:20:37.757+02:00Man and woman cave<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So Blogger has behaved strangely all weekend, and I did not post because it seemed very unstable. My post from friday disappeared completely, so here it is again.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have seen many blogs calling the garage or a similar place for the "man cave", but I have to admit that in this house we are both as bad when it comes to collecting things and storing them in a not-so-organized order. This is our "man and woman cave" - and as you can see it is quite a mess.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCUuDeO0zXBZT1Zu8ZP-ZSH8m-VYV_8tDNviff4wImGbpws87cKIUPhKpsl7M3EK3ieToyG7sTgtGcTdNDsv3QfWBTAwoOe3VpPTqFDLzwBKPNgBSuRjdSIb71H14soI7wQGa_jS4lqa0/s1600/DSC_6423.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCUuDeO0zXBZT1Zu8ZP-ZSH8m-VYV_8tDNviff4wImGbpws87cKIUPhKpsl7M3EK3ieToyG7sTgtGcTdNDsv3QfWBTAwoOe3VpPTqFDLzwBKPNgBSuRjdSIb71H14soI7wQGa_jS4lqa0/s320/DSC_6423.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;">I wanted to post this on Friday in hopes that it would make us take care of it this weekend, but that did not really happen (maybe I can blame Blogger for this?). We did start though, and we got one full load to the dump/recycle center and yesterday also loaded the trailer with lots of things that were going to Darlings company. It is an open trailer, but the weather looked fine to we took the risk of leaving it for the night.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;">That was a bad idea, because at 3AM I woke up and heard the rain pour down outside. There was nothing but to head out in the rain and try to cover the poor furniture with whatever plastic we could find. Luckily they managed quite well after all, but getting up and out at that time is really terrible. Darling called it "Ryan-air-time" referring to a low cost airline that often flies on strange hours so that one have to leave for the airport in the middle of the night.</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbBGitnhUPT-OEzSlLNBwJ4eVuK_vwVWJ82b9Pkum0viyPIuYQm2WUSC3-Qi7PwPG-3GlRprEw0Hj6__X6a0aPPkGWQHj2wYMIH9yuSqhBgZ6rFlqawmlTt5FYD0R2m4_GmhniLmg1c-M/s1600/DSC_6421.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbBGitnhUPT-OEzSlLNBwJ4eVuK_vwVWJ82b9Pkum0viyPIuYQm2WUSC3-Qi7PwPG-3GlRprEw0Hj6__X6a0aPPkGWQHj2wYMIH9yuSqhBgZ6rFlqawmlTt5FYD0R2m4_GmhniLmg1c-M/s320/DSC_6421.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Anyways. These are the before pictures, but there are not yet any after pictures. I hope I will have some soon, but it might still take weeks. We'll see.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I hope you did funnier things this weekend!</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-75402815380627541902011-05-13T20:21:00.002+02:002011-05-13T20:21:59.608+02:00IssuesBlogger is behaving strangely, so I seem to have lost one (or more) posts. I will try to investigate what has happened.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-52930291879979999232011-05-10T18:04:00.001+02:002011-05-10T18:07:28.205+02:00Garden signs<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">You might have spotted these little sign in my garden post. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">They were really simple to make, but makes a big difference in the patch. And it will be nice to know what is actually growing where, because previous years we have completely forgotten.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLJPPo3xq2oUSQvjSNNBVHSYtyq6LARlqzwUHTni_hEg-Wwa2J0-hYrWJhAeGvJ6bYa6LbXZ4Vgnmcj2WY36XJ7qaF2X1ZmecjxtyG984UKehLB5yjJqFevIiHAQMBNGvpwjLYSZMJ6_8/s1600/DSC_6427.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLJPPo3xq2oUSQvjSNNBVHSYtyq6LARlqzwUHTni_hEg-Wwa2J0-hYrWJhAeGvJ6bYa6LbXZ4Vgnmcj2WY36XJ7qaF2X1ZmecjxtyG984UKehLB5yjJqFevIiHAQMBNGvpwjLYSZMJ6_8/s320/DSC_6427.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I found some left over wood and sawed it into little pieces. I would have loved to use older wood that had turned gray already, but I did not find any. I think these ones will turn grey in the end so they will have to do.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Originally I planned to add a stick to them, but when I found these really huge nails, I decided to be lazy and just use them. It worked out great.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYiaHU9IIiJI_X7JojbdKGsQZXRfyq80mUr6FLH5WJIk5ySUQqHV6gPRS06syCmU3BxqErTE9GF8FXiNRxkJJ4MNHMoqT9i9auE-alcAt1kCI-drtF2xDRNNK41NnTuGMN9uQMwhyphenhyphenXJZA/s1600/IMAG0085.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYiaHU9IIiJI_X7JojbdKGsQZXRfyq80mUr6FLH5WJIk5ySUQqHV6gPRS06syCmU3BxqErTE9GF8FXiNRxkJJ4MNHMoqT9i9auE-alcAt1kCI-drtF2xDRNNK41NnTuGMN9uQMwhyphenhyphenXJZA/s320/IMAG0085.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="191" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I have no idea what to do with it. I think it is pretty and it's been in the family, so I do not think I am allowed (or that I should) give it the usual white-paint-treatment, but I find it hard to place in the room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And to make matters worse (although I do not like to use that word) there is another one, a similar, but much bigger one waiting to be moved to our house that I have just inherited from my grandmother. A very beautiful piece, but so hard to find a good place for.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

The weather here is fantastic and I have spent a lot of time in the garden, and finishing the painting of the deck.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This time of the year and hopefully for the months to come we spend a lot of our time in the sunroom.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We often eat there, and we often have a barbecue and I thought it would be convenient to have some china, glasses etc outside, so I added two shelves. They are simple ones from IKEA, the console is called Walter, and the shelves are the simple wooden ones (I do not know the name), which I painted white and had Darling to put up for me. I am good at many things, but putting up shelves is really not my thing.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXyqa4v8Or83yio0I1X42GiC0fWk49PVHK69yMm9kgfUtXdpLvvJQ4BGc2MDqZ0l_S63VWIzVsojb6ngJrZpkAiSUFebOl-IX9N4WP_DqrpDUX56rAtCP8WZ1ZPOscSBmRBCsP545e8X4/s1600/DSC_6728.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXyqa4v8Or83yio0I1X42GiC0fWk49PVHK69yMm9kgfUtXdpLvvJQ4BGc2MDqZ0l_S63VWIzVsojb6ngJrZpkAiSUFebOl-IX9N4WP_DqrpDUX56rAtCP8WZ1ZPOscSBmRBCsP545e8X4/s320/DSC_6728.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also added this fabric to cover the cables, coal and radio that is hidden behind. I actually bought the fabric last year, but never got around doing it and then the season ended and I just forgot about it. The other day I finally sewed it and hanged it. I added two metal loops and then first tried to hang it on a simple string, but that didnt work as the string would expand when I tried to knot it in place. After some very mature pulling the tread and screaming at it like a five year old (what can I say? Decoratin sometimes definitely brings out the worst in me.) and some help from Darling I instead used a thin metal wire which went a lot better. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">I know stars are almost everywhere right now, but I still like them. I think they add such a clean touch to everything. The pot is from the local thrift store and the small mugs was found at a sale some months ago. They are a little bit too small for my liking - I am a tea drinker and prefer to have a bigger mug, but they are perfect as decoration.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

I found some bushes for only 2€ (3$) each, which is a lot less then the usual price, at Lidl (a low cost store) and planted them along with some plants my mother gave me.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I guess some people could think of nothing worse than a day working in the garden, getting dirty and tired, but I really love it. I love to be doing something physical (as opposed to my work in front of a pc) and I love to plan how to plant things (not so different from interior design) and see how it grows!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Is there anything better than the spring flowers? Every time when I get back to the house (I am often away in the weeks) I go out in the garden and look at all the buds out there. Everything is growing so fast now!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It seems like almost all flowers survived the sudden cold that we had. There are some flowers from last year that still havent shown any sign of life, and I am worried that these might not have made it through the winter. I hope they are just slow to wake up, but the winter was very long and very cold so I will not be suprised - only sad - if it turns out that they died.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">I do not know the name of these white flowers in english. Someone said that they are called anemones? Is that right? They are my favorite spring flower and I just love it when the whole forest is full of them.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I remember one year when we lived in town. I had not been able to go out and get any of the flowers, and so when Darling was driving from a meeting in another city he stopped the car in the forest and picked a bunch for me. So cute!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"> I got these blue ones from my best friends mother. They are known to spread all over the garden and so I planted them quite far from the house. I think maybe even too far, because I hardly see them now, but hopefully they will indeed spread. I would love to find the garden covered in blue and white each spring!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">I love this little corner of the garden, but Darling wants to built a garage there (it is the only possible place) so I am going to have to move the plants somewhere else.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I am intrigued by the pricing of these flowers (pensees, violets). One and half month ago, they were sold very cheap, and now they have suddenly became more expensive. I do not understand why, because it seems more logical the other way around, doesn't it? Either way, I was happy to find a deal with 24 plants for a good price and now they are planted in the garden. Hopefully they will last all through summer, adding bits of color everywhere.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Do you also like gardening? Do you agree with me that it is a bit similar to interior design?</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-15469619183108946942011-05-04T16:17:00.000+02:002011-05-04T16:17:00.630+02:00The red deck by the lake<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We are lucky to live really close to the lake, it is maybe 50 meters from the house. Down by the lake we have a deck where we are able to enjoy the last sunshine in the evenings, before the sun sets behind the forest. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Last week we ended most days down there with a cold drink and some snacks before dinner. I love to sit and just relax, and especially now when there are not yet any bugs around.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNMrIMqDDdjk-HZoYmC2iYqow1ECRHl5rMayXRu1SPQuvJffv3wSRWLLghksderUVSuKE4SLk_Wacnpq7OVAZs7ZRAe2c3csjivnDmsPLass36XOB0rPVtNer6XnKJ7cj2eo8JOMKtO2g/s1600/DSC_6482.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNMrIMqDDdjk-HZoYmC2iYqow1ECRHl5rMayXRu1SPQuvJffv3wSRWLLghksderUVSuKE4SLk_Wacnpq7OVAZs7ZRAe2c3csjivnDmsPLass36XOB0rPVtNer6XnKJ7cj2eo8JOMKtO2g/s320/DSC_6482.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I bought these chairs and table at a local store last year. They were untreated and unpainted, and I got them for only 40€ for the whole set. Quite amazing, I think. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I did not look forward to pain them, so in the end I decided to use a paintbrush. I will share the whole story of that at some other time, but let's just say that they turned out alright in the end, even if I might have been just as white as the chairs.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">This weekend we began painting the deck itself. The upper side will be oiled with a tinted oil to make the wood look darker, the sides will be red and the "wall" will be white. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP2vbO5OCtGWDKmC7YYph-9rjUQI4_8kzvE2NY9vtuezoDpMZcZL5YFKzFHlsuc8YIx_u7N51BONBKcj2DNlPCL-jaX_yIqY2PAaB1su_LnusmTAlsAWbqSaCC1x4Ay2gHOvhubjYofgw/s1600/IMG_7172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP2vbO5OCtGWDKmC7YYph-9rjUQI4_8kzvE2NY9vtuezoDpMZcZL5YFKzFHlsuc8YIx_u7N51BONBKcj2DNlPCL-jaX_yIqY2PAaB1su_LnusmTAlsAWbqSaCC1x4Ay2gHOvhubjYofgw/s320/IMG_7172.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I really wasn't sure about painting it red (I'm still not totally convinced it was a good idea), because I always prefer white, but red just tied it together with the house in a better way.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"> It's not very often that I and Darling are working on the same thing, so it was really nice to be doing a shared project for once.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp3LR9Ves7PWXnMp_NHcCs85Djsn3M961l54neCo8uQjgOkEYwizfRJfpxUmQDr571L4kRqdgNrxsmTUUCYsnhur0OPCzV30uPOh2farJFeef0s2oAQt7id3itM6W9XqvoWuwh3Mg8SKQ/s1600/IMG_7178.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp3LR9Ves7PWXnMp_NHcCs85Djsn3M961l54neCo8uQjgOkEYwizfRJfpxUmQDr571L4kRqdgNrxsmTUUCYsnhur0OPCzV30uPOh2farJFeef0s2oAQt7id3itM6W9XqvoWuwh3Mg8SKQ/s320/IMG_7178.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I was pretty upset by the white color, because I have previously used another shade but it would only come in 10L and I felt that was way to much. They said that this one would be very similar, just a little bit lighter, and since I am not using it as the same place as the old one that was not a problem. Unfortunately, when I began to paint, I realized that the new one does not cover as good as the old one did. While the other one looked good after only one coat, this new one will need two or even three coats. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I think I will go back and talk to them, but I do not suppose they will let me change it since I have already used some of it.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Next project for the deck is to add a proper railing to it, and to repaint the white part of course. I am not sure if the steps should remain white or if they should be red - any thoughts? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">I moved them to our sun room on Sunday, but this morning Darling sent me a picture of our garden covered in snow so now I am very worried that these plants will not make it. I am so proud that they have become so big because previous years we have been to late and our plants have been nowhere near this size, so I would hate for them to die now.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Below is our garden this morning. Not the sight you want to see at this time of year (or ever, actually).</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">I got this handy little serving trolley from my grandmothers belongings and it fit perfectly in the sun room. </div><div style="text-align: center;">I have also planted some herbs. The little "box" is supposed to make the soil warmer and give bigger plants, but I am not sure if it works. I think it is nice though.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Rosemary, chives and rhubarb, and I have sown basil, parsley and oregano. Can't wait until it has all grown bigger (unless it just died from the snow... sigh)<br />
<br />
While I was writing this post, I saw that Centsational Girl had posted a recipe of <a href="http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2011/05/raspberry-rhubarb-crumble-oh-yeah/">Raspberry Rhubarb crumple</a> that had my mouth water. I really, really long for those summer days when I can go outside and pick rhubarb, raspberries and maybe even strawberries and make a fresh crumble. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Have you sown or planted anything this year? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It seems like I often write about our cats on Mondays, so I guess I will continue with this tradition. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We have two cats and they are both pedigrees and the first time they were let outside (on a leash), the female hid under a bush for two hours straight, too scared to go outside. She got more used to it with every time we went outside, but she was still kind of shy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmpqXTjaBnRds4I-wf7sj0hnJRDK6eeNR5ZstRsm7dfCnYL4WJBZa_9ZZx39dg3B5e4yhXd4WT4FIaIi5m-My2llWimXzBdr5Ds6fuspaI3rKJfZYWlXaJ5uL-1Ez7qFnf2wyG2xktkMk/s1600/DSC_6008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmpqXTjaBnRds4I-wf7sj0hnJRDK6eeNR5ZstRsm7dfCnYL4WJBZa_9ZZx39dg3B5e4yhXd4WT4FIaIi5m-My2llWimXzBdr5Ds6fuspaI3rKJfZYWlXaJ5uL-1Ez7qFnf2wyG2xktkMk/s320/DSC_6008.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We were kind of curious to see what it would be like when we moved to the house and let the cats out. The house is far from any big road and not many other houses around, so we figure it is safe enough. There are foxes, but we feel that hopefully the cats can defend themselves and it is worth taking the risk for giving them the opportunity of being free and following their instincts. And it honestly seem like the right decision, because this scared little indoor cat has turned into a real rural cat and she now brings home countless of mice for us.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">She usually goes out in the morning and take a look at her territory, then she wants back in again to have some food, before going out again, and back inside. She has been jumping on the door handle every time (which has left us with a scratched door, but that is another issue). Anybody that has a cat knows that the cat always wants to be on the other side of the door.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We had planned for a cat door for a long time, but we have had a third cat that was blind and we did not figure out a good way to let two cats out but not the third. Very sadly, the blind cat died earlier this year (he was my baby and I am still devastated by grief).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQS6f5NcfztKlTwjDdm96Scznde0Z0RzBox4375GTK9rG_MUkl4nDw1VIIUU0_KV_Z_5ADWZzJk0jZbT9gFfVfepq277LMsSXoO2Y9GiwYYVeIqVAWOR-7JBKnEHrgdVcQvcxZSGanAXQ/s1600/DSC_2487.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQS6f5NcfztKlTwjDdm96Scznde0Z0RzBox4375GTK9rG_MUkl4nDw1VIIUU0_KV_Z_5ADWZzJk0jZbT9gFfVfepq277LMsSXoO2Y9GiwYYVeIqVAWOR-7JBKnEHrgdVcQvcxZSGanAXQ/s320/DSC_2487.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: xx-small;">(My beloved angel cat)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Either way, we finally had enough of running to the door to open it for our female cat, and so the other day we bought and installed a cat door. Our male cat is very content, because he loves lying in the sun room and he does not seem to mind the new door, but our female is not so happy about it. She usually stands before it, hoping that somebody will come and open the door instead. .</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHhv5EePWmQmXy-v2QKkFqjH9G3desAzd1YVb_oJeN-fXBVTJxve3ZoTx94OtScVtQuKt71kcHgDlDfgrvu1SX25Y2DMzJCVUP13TRbv2QWl3SYmaXKIQ0CauIak8xvpTNFQDfQZbOedY/s1600/DSC_5987.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHhv5EePWmQmXy-v2QKkFqjH9G3desAzd1YVb_oJeN-fXBVTJxve3ZoTx94OtScVtQuKt71kcHgDlDfgrvu1SX25Y2DMzJCVUP13TRbv2QWl3SYmaXKIQ0CauIak8xvpTNFQDfQZbOedY/s320/DSC_5987.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Installing it was easy, basically there was a template in the instruction folder that we just held to the door, drilled two holes and sawed between. Then we (or Darling rather) added the plastic parts, attached the "flap" and it was all set.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmAihBLJmzSLF-lygeV8RT2KnM9BIttlGdMIJCqXr37_OaKh9HjBUm33QOVaN3Ihd8S2aEmYSIb-kQhOsyJIIDAGDbR_L-yIawRm9t6exctTDCJemyIOXM2apBhx07d311JCn8NWgKvtA/s1600/DSC_6021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmAihBLJmzSLF-lygeV8RT2KnM9BIttlGdMIJCqXr37_OaKh9HjBUm33QOVaN3Ihd8S2aEmYSIb-kQhOsyJIIDAGDbR_L-yIawRm9t6exctTDCJemyIOXM2apBhx07d311JCn8NWgKvtA/s320/DSC_6021.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">We put it onto the sun room, because that means that if we in get another handicapped cat in the future (quite <a href="http://theredhousebythelake.blogspot.com/2011/03/best-place-in-rome.html">likely</a>) we can easily shut the doors to the sun room and the cats can be outside, but not in the garden. (At that point we would probably have to figure out a solution so that the female can go outside, but we will have to worry about that later.)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGwRUteHife6aJLc0t-mFwYwGv5CPo1EUwNacO1G_Wy9p0HoYJcwgoGeujfJrEJUgbzST6x_GICIbTmPsf8EZT9BTh8H22pHhKN0eSODAeWvEsdo3mewoZbftQf9IVqOfb_-w0UHUgkK8/s1600/DSC_6026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGwRUteHife6aJLc0t-mFwYwGv5CPo1EUwNacO1G_Wy9p0HoYJcwgoGeujfJrEJUgbzST6x_GICIbTmPsf8EZT9BTh8H22pHhKN0eSODAeWvEsdo3mewoZbftQf9IVqOfb_-w0UHUgkK8/s320/DSC_6026.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And best of all - we no longer have to feel bad that we are not home when the sun is shining, because the cats are free to go out whenever they want. And so far we have not had neither any other cat visiting or woken up to a mouse-eating-feast in the bed (although that last thing is bound to happen sooner or later).</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">I wanted to tell you about the bonfire that should have been lit for Walpurgis, but because of the wind, they were not allowed to set fire to it. It was kind of an anti-klimax, because the tradition is to have a big bonfire and listen to a speach and some songs about spring, but without the fire the whole thing kind of lost it's point.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So, instead tomorrow I will telll you about all the other things I've been up to this weekend. Below is a picture of the clothing I have been wearing most of the time. Not really any fancy weekend wear, that's for sure.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
I just came home and I must admit I have tried to catch up a bit on the royal wedding (I am sure my grandmother would not have disapproved - she loved reading about the royalties). The dress is stunning! I am getting married this summer and my dress will also have a lot of lace on it, and last weekend my soon to be mother in law offered me to have her veil which is beautiful. Seeing how beautiful Kate was makes me want to do something similiar with a tiara, but since I have no crown jewels laying around, I suppose I will have to turn to ebay...<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I think not!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Although, this weekend will not start on a happy note as my grandmother will be buried tomorrow. I have very mixed feelings about it, because she had a long and adventurous life and I think she was happy to let go, but I still miss her a lot. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">On Saturday some friends are coming over and we will celebrate Walpurgis eve with a bonfire, a choir and dinner. I will make a post about this tradition.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(The pictures in this posts are actually two weeks old by now, because it has finally begun to be green outside and the ice is gone from the lake.) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-143184900851700952011-04-27T16:18:00.000+02:002011-04-27T16:18:36.303+02:00The mirror<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As a follow up on yesterdays post, I want to tell you about the mirror.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The mirror that we have in the "church" is really very tall. It is 2 m x 3 m, which would be 6,5 x 10 feet if I am doing the conversion correctly.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It's quite funny how it ended up in our place. Three years ago, when we had just bought the house and before we could move in, I spent some time planning how to furnish it because I was so eager to finally have all this space and I placed a big mirror in that room thinking that it might be something I could create. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">When we moved in other projects took over and I forgot about the mirror plan. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">About two years later there was a sale at one of the hotels in town. They were redoing their restaurant and lobby and was selling everything, so we went there and got some really good plates, some glasses and a bunch of other kitchen utensils (and was too late for a huge, wonderful chandelier).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">On our way out I saw this huge mirror on the wall and asked if it was also for sale. The woman in charge confirmed that it was - if they could get it down without breaking it (they had obviously already broken a similiar one). She took my number and promised to call and let me know.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmTd6vdqcNItZQ8KHKNnNILfctE9x6GEPu66LHaEYi3UMvyepVsJsj35eC1F_oWdQCOKwCy93GFOZWd-HhhEcoIYekrVK0MoNewAmATxE8tfrOuthmVJ3zLMWEpgzGcpRlu7AKJcy4feQ/s1600/DSC_0113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmTd6vdqcNItZQ8KHKNnNILfctE9x6GEPu66LHaEYi3UMvyepVsJsj35eC1F_oWdQCOKwCy93GFOZWd-HhhEcoIYekrVK0MoNewAmATxE8tfrOuthmVJ3zLMWEpgzGcpRlu7AKJcy4feQ/s320/DSC_0113.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">She called three days later, telling me that the mirror was mine for the price of 50€ (about 73 USD) but that I had to pick it up as soon as possible, preferably the next day.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I had no idea on how to do it, because obviously a 6 square meter (about 65 sqft) mirror without back support is not something you can just put into the car. I briefly considered renting a big car, but my father talked me out of it because the risk of the mirror breaking was just to big.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">In the end I called a local glass manufacturer that transported the mirror for me on one of their special cars. The transportation ended up costing about three times as much as the mirror itself, but even at a total price of 200€ I think it was worth it. The mirror is really huge and it totally transformed the room and I think it is funny to think that is has been in that hotel lobby. I love pieces with a history, and it doesn't always have to be old histories to be interesting.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggL85pEYDXqAaI74_fjYcMKAomS7Cm2SCr3QBGNNFqMqKolAAkto0z_YKgBUpbQu242RZup_etyGDHkZqpjGMTdTH2VuVYHGWrtBDjiBwkifKoYiYwVB8Oev2sc5Iy5krolyUglZAiDWg/s1600/DSC_0007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggL85pEYDXqAaI74_fjYcMKAomS7Cm2SCr3QBGNNFqMqKolAAkto0z_YKgBUpbQu242RZup_etyGDHkZqpjGMTdTH2VuVYHGWrtBDjiBwkifKoYiYwVB8Oev2sc5Iy5krolyUglZAiDWg/s320/DSC_0007.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">As you can see, the furniture is different on these pictures. I used to have it like this before I switched places of the dark and the white sofa.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Although the room is so much better than before, I am still not satisfied with it. I think the main reason is that there is only one window and I do not like rooms without windows. I would like to put in another window at the same wall as the mirror, but I am not sure that would look good. I would also like to take down the wall to the left, but Darling disagrees with me, so I guess it will have to wait.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieSYrjTESgs1mgr6xMu7RTjXwoVlMDso-17eM781XQ9SRLgrnJ4VxIoeLPpPyErzbiiRHC0TVxYqfq7Mne6yklIa2A3UBwkGi0F92w4mFVfrkIPCGtbcV-Ny-Wf4un3I0zXpeKfwM43wc/s1600/DSC_0083.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieSYrjTESgs1mgr6xMu7RTjXwoVlMDso-17eM781XQ9SRLgrnJ4VxIoeLPpPyErzbiiRHC0TVxYqfq7Mne6yklIa2A3UBwkGi0F92w4mFVfrkIPCGtbcV-Ny-Wf4un3I0zXpeKfwM43wc/s320/DSC_0083.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">That was the story of the mirror. I really hope we wont have to move it, because I do not think we can do it ourselves without breaking it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This definitely tops my list of impulse buys that caused me problems with transportation, but it is far from the only occasion when I bought first and considered the logistics later. Please tell me that I am not alone!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">What is the worst thing you have ever moved or transported? </div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-24898156469894280172011-04-26T22:08:00.001+02:002011-04-26T22:17:09.537+02:00The "church"<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I hope you have all had a fantastic easter. Mine have been spent with sunny days and a lot of work in the garden. It's been lovely and I will share some projects soon, but first something else.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have unintentionally broken the most important blogging rule of all - I promised to share something that I then forgot. Or, to be honest, I did not forget, but I wanted to snap better pictures and constantly forgot it (since I am in the house only during the weekends, I can not just snap a picture whenever I remember it).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">If you look at the before picture, you can see that we also changed the bannister. The official reason was because we wanted a touch of New England style, but the true reason is that they seemed to be a pain to paint. I am very happy that we did change them though, because not only do they look great, they were also something of the first that we built together for the house (basically Darling building/creating them and me paiting).</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">(I'll probably link this to <a href="http://www.abeachcottage.com/">abeachcottage</a> - as usual on wednesdays)</span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8547331403878921369.post-84910486103595274422011-04-22T10:11:00.000+02:002011-04-22T10:11:19.912+02:00Happy easter!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have not seen this on many other blogs, so I am thinking that it might be a local tradition. In Sweden, it is common to pick or buy some birch branches and decorate them with colored feathers. After some time, the leaves will appear and on those years that spring is early in the season it is always such a joy to see those small green leaves.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisUYftvWezp26tXI_wVT5xftZltGFeMg-ATmYXgvyg42-3BR7hwkteMkHfwrM9pCKyWid3hYXUW9kAg95zH9S-hTtz40f3pBP8V-V6YcwexeWhrmnI1eTsPWkrM4VxIb9TKUkNOn_iYgQ/s1600/DSC_6169.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisUYftvWezp26tXI_wVT5xftZltGFeMg-ATmYXgvyg42-3BR7hwkteMkHfwrM9pCKyWid3hYXUW9kAg95zH9S-hTtz40f3pBP8V-V6YcwexeWhrmnI1eTsPWkrM4VxIb9TKUkNOn_iYgQ/s320/DSC_6169.jpg" width="212" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I like to decorate a little bit for easter, but this year there was really no time. The weather has been so brilliant that I have spent all my time outdoors with various time consuming projects (I will show you soon) and I only put the easter decorations up yesterday.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">There is also a tradition that the children dresses themselves as "easter witches" in old, colorful skirths, blouses, aprons and with red chins and freckles and then visit their neighbours to give a "easter letter" - a drawing - and in return get candies. As our house is right out in the country side and there are no kids around, I do not expect any visitors, but I am thinking that it is still a perfect excuse to buy some easter candy. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
